Top Recipes

Well, the ole blogs been around over five years now, and I'm happy to say it's actually getting some hits, around 10-12K a year now.  And while that ain't exactly Pioneer Woman numbers, it's good enough for me.

One of the nice things about Blogger is you can analyse your traffic and see lots of things about what people are looking at on your blog.  The simplest of these is to see which of your posts are getting the most hits.  With this in mind, I decided to use that data to create a 'top recipes' page.  So, without further ado, here's the top five recipes on An Eat'n Man, as decided by you, gentle readers.

Edit:  When I started this "Top Recipes" page, the top five recipes of An Eat'n Man had been the same for a couple of years.  But about the same time that I made this page, I started adding many of my recipe posts to the Yummly recipe search engine.  All of a sudden, my blog went from getting 20-25 hits a day to over 200 a day!  Not too shabby!

Certain recipes also seemed to be getting more interest than others.  One in particular, my Chicken Breasts Portieri, was getting hits like mad.  I posted this recipe way back in 2010, and it hadn't gotten more than 80 or so hits in all these years.  Well, it has proved popular on Yummly, which makes me happy, as it is a unique and tasty recipe that is quite different from other chicken dishes.  It deserves a little recognition!  And in less than a month it has gotten over a thousand hits, propelling it to number five (at the time) on my top recipes list.

So, I've remade this page to reflect that, and I guess I'll continue to update it as things change.

Number Eight:



Stir Fry on the Grill:  Kung Pao Chicken

This was one of my first recipes on An Eat'n Man, so it's been around for a while.  With almost a thousand hits, it comes in at #8.  I still make it from time to time, and it comes out great over and over.  Using a grill to heat your wok is the key to getting that authentic wok flavor--there's no way to get your wok hotter than this (well, blowtorch, maybe) and that's the secret to great stir-fry.

Shrimp Stock

At almost 2000 hits, Shrimp Stock comes in seventh on the top recipe page.  This is one I wasn't expecting--it's not very glamorous, and is really a simple thing.  I only added it because I had to make this stock when I needed some for my Shrimp Creole recipe, and it's not something you can usually buy like beef or chicken stock.  So I made my own, and added it as a recipe.  I guess there's not a ton of other shrimp stock recipes on the net, or maybe there are, but for some reason, mine is high on some searches.

Chicken Breasts Portieri

This recipe was also presented early on in the history of An Eat'n Man.  It's very simple, and yet unique and tasty.  I make it several times a year and still love it.  I got it from one of the first cookbooks I ever purchased, way back in my bachelor days--a little paperback called the Nitty Gritty Italian Cookbook.  I've never seen this dish anywhere else, though, other than my blog, of course.


Number Five:



Roasted Corn on the Cob

With over 2000 hits, Roasted Corn on the Cob seems to be something that people are looking for on the net.  I'm glad they're finding it.  This is a great technique for roasting corn, if I do say so myself, and I do.

Number Four:



A Treatise on Smoked Beef Brisket

I'm quite happy and proud this this one is up near the top.  With over 5000 hits, this one has definitely got some attention, which is fine by me.  I pride myself on my brisket technique, and will take the Pepsi challenge against just about any other brisket out there.  There's nothing like authentic Texas brisket smoked at home or in a competition--commercial joints just can't hold a candle to it.

Perfect Roast Beef

I've always loved a delicious slice of perfectly rare roast beef dripping in its natural juices.  Problem was, when I roasted beef at home it always came out too well done--even if the center was rare, the majority was an overcooked gray and the beef was dry.  Well, I finally tracked down a technique that solved that problem and got me perfectly rare roast beef throughout every slice.  Apparently, others agree for this post, at almost 6000 hits, has become quite popular.

Parmesan Ranch Pork Chops

I added these a little over a year ago, in April of '16, and they were a hit almost immediately.  They routinely get 500-600 hits a month and they already have over 7000 hits as of summer of '17.  Why so popular?  Who knows.  Could be because pork chops are great.  Could be the ranch dressing.  Could be the fact that they are simple and delicious.  Give em a try, I think you'll agree.

The Best Mashed Potatoes You've Ever Tasted

Yes, the title is a bold statement, but I worked hard to master mashed potatoes, and I really do feel this recipe is right up there, and definitely the best I've ever tasted.  Maybe it's the bold claim, or maybe it's the fact that I referenced Babe's Chicken Dinner House in the post, as it was their potatoes that set me on the quest to make the best there were.  With over 10,000 hits, it's definitely the most popular recipe on An Eat'n Man, so I guess some people agree with the title.


Well, there you have it.  The top five six most popular recipes on An Eat'n Man.  I'll check back from time to time and update this page if things change.
